DLA Piper partner Andrew Serwin receives 2025 IAPP Leadership Award

Andrew Serwin, US Chair and Global Co-Chair of DLA Piper’s Data Protection, Privacy and Security practice, has received the 2025 IAPP Leadership Award from the International Association of Privacy Professionals, a nonprofit dedicated to privacy, AI governance, and digital responsibility. Past recipients have included former Senator Olympia Snowe, a number of Chairs and Commissioners of the Federal Trade Commission, as well as several heads of the European Data Protection Supervisor, the EU’s independent data protection authority.

The annual award honors individuals who demonstrate an ongoing commitment to furthering privacy policy, promoting recognition of privacy issues and advancing the growth and visibility of the profession.

Serwin has worked on some of the highest-profile privacy and security matters over the last 20 years, including a number of significant cybersecurity breaches. He served as the US law expert for the Irish Data Protection Commissioner in Schrems II, the case that currently defines European data transfer issues, and has advised on a significant number of “bet the company” enforcement and litigation matters.

He has also assisted clients with complex privacy projects, including representing some of the leading Internet and social media companies on privacy strategy and programs; advising on privacy and security compliance builds in heavily regulated industries; and handling complex M&A transactions.
